Exploring oak and craftsmanship with Seguin Moreau cooperage
We recently took part in a day organized by Seguin Moreau Cooperage, in Cognac, to discover the work behind oak used for barrel making. You can watch the full video here.
Many thanks to Culture Wine TV for capturing this experience so faithfully.
In the Châteauroux state forest, we witnessed the felling of a 180-year-old oak tree, carried out by an experienced woodsman. Each trunk is carefully prepared: part of it will be used to produce staves for oak barrels, while the rest will be processed in sawmills for furniture, timber or window frames.
This immersion gave us a deeper understanding of the connection between forest, wood and winemaking, and of the care required to transform a tree into a high-quality barrel.
